Yarico

Yarico, an Amerindian beauty, is a young woman with great dreams and a fierce, independent spirit… When Inkle, the third son of a British merchant is shipwrecked on her island, he faces certain death at the hands of the islanders. In a courageous act, Yarico intervenes and saves him from his fate, marking the beginning of an extraordinary love story, which ultimately takes them to the island of Barbados.

The story of Yarico was first recorded by Richard Ligon in his book: True and Exact History of the Island of Barbados published in 1657. On hearing her story, Ligon wrote: “And so poor Yarico for her love, lost her liberty.

This powerful and epic new musical of forbidden love, betrayal and redemption is based on a true story that fired the world’s imagination and contributed to a social movement against the slave trade. A story of great historical significance that has languished in time, once revived will remind us of the value of freedom.

About The ShowThe Cast

 Apartment 40C

Next Showing: St James Studio – 6-12 April, 2015

The first true export out of the London Theatre Workshop, since it opened its doors in March 2014; a new musical conceived, written, workshopped and now mounted as a full production, Apartment 40C.

Written by Artistic Directors of London Theatre Workshop, Ray Rackham (book and lyrics) and Tom Lees (music), the musical explores how relationships are affected by the endless possibility of choice. Told over the course of one evening, the musical examines decades of love, happiness, regret and loss; chances taken and options missed; and how it is sometimes impossible to make any kind of distinction between the past and the present.

Rackham and Lees are the team behind London Theatre Workshop’s inaugural production of Adam Gwon’s Ordinary Days. They are nominees for Best Director of a New Production of a Play or Musical (Rackham) and Best Musical Director of a Fringe Musical (Lees) at this year’s Broadwayworld Awards for Ordinary Days, which itself has been nominated in the Best Musical category at both the Broadwayworld and Off West End Theatre Awards.

The cast includes Alex Crossley, Alex James Ellison, Peter Gerald, Johnjo Flynn, Nova Skipp & Lizzie Wofford. Click here for full cast biographies.
